This sort of accident definitely seems to be a problem (though I’d imagine in the grand scale of things, it is pretty minor). Seems like it would be trivial on modern automatics to lock the car in park if the door is open with the car stopped (maybe this is already done on some models?) I’m sure someone would complain, but you could always let the owner override somewhere if they really need that.

Most, if not all European cars with an electronic parking brake will do that. I remember Car and Driver complaining about not being able to easily pick up cones from a Panamera because it would engage the parking brake every time they opened the door to grab a cone.

Shit exactly the same thing happened this year at a shopping centre where I live. And it was just weeks after they installed the boom gates for paid parking. That really didn’t go down well for them :S

I was sitting on a bench at a park in N iagara F alls with my newly found Girlfriend . We decided to snack on carrot sticks and humus. I bit into one “baby cut” carrot and the sucker exploded into woody shards and one got caught in my throat. I was coughing and getting light headed, thinking to myself oh hell no, I am not dying while eating carrots and humus. My last meal has to be better than this. And I certainly did not want to die in Niagara Falls. I punched myself in the stomach and was able to cough up the carrot shard (Which was the size of a normal baby cut carrot) and continued on with the date.

PSA, if you are going to step any part of your body out of your car, PUT IT IN PARK. This happened about 3 blocks from where one of my co workers lives. He came in yesterday wondering what the sirens the night prior were, I had the joy of showing him the article.

Would people PLEASE stop using drive-up windows until you learn how to drive? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people stop way too far from the window to use it the way it was made to be used.

I don’t know about this location, but I’ve seen drive-throughs shoehorned into places where it’s literally impossible in a vehicle larger than a kei car to make the turn correctly.

Yeah, I’ve seen places like that too. This isn’t one of them, but even if it was, the fact that the car was in reverse tells me that he must have tried to “correct” however poorly his first attempt landed. I won’t defend poorly-designed drive-thrus, but one correction shou ld have been enough to get the car lined up.

L ooking at that map though , I’m wondering what tree he could have hit? The one on the southern side of the property? And how did he ge t there in reverse from the drive-up window?
